As Rei got to the dining area, it was a similar situation to the space around the stairs.

Five knights were surrounded by a mob of intruders, but most of the intruders were already lying on the floor.

A few of the knights had also suffered minor bruises and cuts, but they were mostly unharmed.

As knights who underwent rigorous training every day, the mob attacking the inn were quickly swept away. It was clear from this what the difference in strength was.

Even so, there were still about 20 intruders surrounding the knights, waiting for an opening.

Unlike the battle under the stairs, the knights here had the advantage of not needing to defend a fixed location……in other words, they didn’t have to stay in one place and could use the whole dining area as a battlefield.

However, vice versa, they now had the risk of attacked from behind.

「UOAAAAAH-, this is revenge for my brother, Sarnis-!」

One of the intruders shouted as he swung his sword at the knight in front of him.

An enemy of his brother. With that alone, the knight understood why he was being attacked. But, that didn’t mean he wouldn’t react.

Blocking the attack with his own sword, the knight pushed it aside before slamming his sword into the man.

That said, the sword was still in its scabbard and not unsheathed, so it was more of a blunt attack rather than a slash.

The attack was made based on his judgement that it would be better to take prisoners rather than kill them. Still, the attack carried a lot of force behind it.

The intruder fainted and fell to the floor after being struck.

「That is what happens on the battlefield. I won’t ask for forgiveness.」

The knight muttered as he looked at the man unconscious on the floor.

In order to gather information, the knight chose not to kill the man but knock him out instead……nevertheless, he had attacked a noble, one that had been invited by the Bestir Empire.

If it had been a low ranking noble, they might have gotten away with it.

However, they had attacked a noble from the Mireana Kingdom……a country the Bestir Empire had been at war with for many years and one with a similar level of national power. Moreover, Margrave Rowlocks was the leader of one of the three major factions in the Mireana Kingdom.

Last but not least, Margrave Rowlocks had been one of the nobles who had played a large role in the Bestir Empire’s defeat during the Spring War.

With all that background leading up to this, it was absolutly impossible for the Bestir Empire to acquit anyone putting them in such a bad light. After extracting all the information they could, there was no doubt the man would be executed……or sold as a criminal slave.

Given that, the knight thought for a moment that the knight might have ended up better dead.

However, he quickly decided that this wasn’t the time to think about such things……

「What, what’s with this guy!?」

The knight suddenly heard the voice of another knight……he turned to look in the direction of the shout that was close to a scream in shock.

An intruder had lost his right arm, slashed off by the knight’s long sword. However, the man didn’t seem to show any signs of pain and held a dagger in his left hand as he attacked the knight.

If it had been an ordinary person, losing an arm would normally be enough to stop them or slow down their actions due to pain at worst.

However, the man, who was so injured that an ordinary person, or even a knight, wouldn’t be able to move due to the severe pain……attacked the knight with undiminished fighting spirit.

The knight was taken aback by a moment and his reaction was delayed, causing him to try and protect his face with his arm as the dagger swung down……

The next moment, the sound of flesh hitting the ground was heard.

The knight, who had almost been hit, noticed that his arm hadn’t been hurt.

Instead of the man who had been attacking him, he now saw a familiar robed figure in front of him.

「Are you okay?」

Rei asked while observing the man, who was now lying on the floor in front of him, a the knight returned to his senses and nodded.

「Y-Yeah. That was dangerous.」

「Well, it’s impossible to predict the actions of someone doesn’t seem frightened or feel any pain after taking such an injury. ……He’s not a Zombie, is it?」

「That’s not right. They had been speaking properly and their movements aren’t as a slow as a Zombie’s……hah-!」

As they conversed with each other, Rei and the knight took down another intruder.

Rei kept his dagger in its sheath while the knight slammed the intruder with his scabbard.

Most of the intruders had started to become afraid of Rei and the knights or had been knocked out from the pain after being hit.

「It’s been quite a while since we left the Selemus Plains, so I really don’t want to consider the possibility of undead coming out!」

Rei swung upwards with his dagger at an intruder, who thrust out a spear with a crude spear made from a dagger tied to a wooden pole with rope, getting under his guard and burying his sheathed dagger into the man, causing him to bend over.

「Geh-!」

The man instantly fell to the ground while throwing up the contents of his stomach.

Without even glancing at the man, Rei swung his dagger at the next intruder.

Leaping forward and swinging the dagger, Rei struck an intruder at the side of his head, knocking them out instantly.

He continued moving forward, swinging the dagger again and again, knocking the intruders out one after another.

「UOAAAAAAAAH-!」

One of the intruders seemed like they couldn’t stand the sight of their comrades falling one after another as they tried to swing the spear in their hands.

Crack-, the spear suddenly stopped with the sound of splintering.

Instead of thrusting with the spear, they had tried to make a sweep with the spear, causing to get caught on a table in the dining area.

It was a mistake that adventurers, guards, mercenaries, and knights who were used to wielding spears would not normally make.

It was fatal mistake made because the intruder had just been an ordinary person who wouldn’t normally need to swing a weapon.

「Huh-?」

For a moment, their mind was focused on the spear, and Rei leapt forward to smack the man with his dagger.

In an instant, the intruder’s eyes rolled into the back of their head as they collapsed on the spot.

「You, I’ve found youuuuuu-!」

A nearby intruder yelled as he thrust his sword forward.

Their spear was thrust out at an incomparable speed to any of the other intruders. No, it wasn’t even that far off from what the knights present could do.

「What-!?」

Rei hadn’t thought that all the intruders were amateurs in combat, but even so, the speed of the attack was not inferior to those who fought for a living.

He immediately parried the thrust with his dagger, got under the man’s guard and used their momentum to bury his dagger into their body.

「Gaah-!」

The man was blown away while letting out an eerie scream.

After taking such an attack, everyone else had been knocked out immediately.

However, the man got back up as if nothing had happened.

「……It’s the same as the man from earlier.」

Rei recalled the man who had lost his arm just before.

He didn’t know what the reason was, but it seemed like their sense of pain had been taken away and their minds reinforced in some way.

「There’s definitely someone pulling the strings behind the scenes. But……」

Muttering to himself, Rei dodged the man’s second thrust by barely a few centimeters.

「Tricks like this only work once, there’s no way it will work a second or third time!」

Dodging the thrust, Rei grabbed the man’s outstretched arm and slammed him into the ground with all his might.

They might have lost their sense of pain, but moving their body wouldn’t be possible if it was broken. Rei instantly took the Death Scythe out of the Misty Ring and smashed it into the man’s knees.

There was a harsh crushing sound as both hits combined into one with the speed at which Rei swung the Death Scythe.

「Kuh-, ke-, damn it, damn iiittt-!」

The man tried to stand up, but despite not feeling the pain, he couldn’t stand up with both his knees crushed.

Even so, his arms were still fine, so he tried to stand up by using his spear as a support.

「Give up.」

Saying that, Rei smashed the man’s right elbow with the Death Scythe before doing the same to his left.

In the end, the man was left with was four crushed limbs, only able to crawl around like a caterpillar.

「What are you doing!」

As the brawl with the knights continued, one of the intruders saw Rei and picked up a chair as he ran at him.

They must have thought of slamming the chair into Rei with both hands, but a knight swung their sword as they ran by, sending the man flying.

「Rei, that guy was……」

「Yeah. They’re probably the real goal of this attack.」

Rei replied as he looked at the man who was still trying to prop themselves up after having all four limbs broken.

Even as he replied, the intruders continued to attack, but most of them were not real fighters, so Rei stored away the Death Scythe, which was hard to swing around inside the dining area as he took his dagger back out.

「It’s not normal that they can’t feel pain and their combat strength is also high…… I wonder what’s going on. Was that something they could originally do?」

「From their movements, it seems like they’ve had some sort of training. In that case……!」

Rei nodded back as he struck down an intruder who attacked him with their bare hands.

「I think so. I had thought that he might have been the only one at first……」

「But there are others.」

As for the knight, he had seen the other knight fight someone like that.

All things considered, it was hard to imagine two people having such similar abilities in the same place.

「They’re probably the strongest force here. With how things are going, I’m sure they’ve split their forces with the stables, but I don’t think someone who can’t feel pain can deal with Set in any way.」

Hearing Rei’s words, the knight suddenly thought of something.

「Wait. This attack couldn’t be a diversionary move and they want to head to the stables……and do something to the horses and carriages, could it? On come one, don’t be so persistent!」

「It’s certainly possible……but is there any point in doing that? Trained war horses and carriages are expensive, but if the magistrate has let things reach this point, they’d be more than happy to make up for it by giving up a high quality carriages and horses…!」

Swinging his arms, he knocked away away a chair that was thrown at him.

Seeing that, one of the intruders shouted out impatiently.

「Screw you, you murderous bastard! I’ll avenge my brother, I’ll kill you for sure!」

Rei frowned at the words of a young man at his late teens to early 20s.

(At the very least, those guys, including this man, are seriously trying to kill us. Did someone make this happen?)

Even though he had doubts in his mind, Rei avoided the intruders lying all over the place as he closed the distance to the man.

Seeing Rei run over, the man’s face twitched……but he smiled as if he had caught Rei in a trap.

At that moment, several intruders who had fallen to the floor between the tables suddenly got up and rushed towards Rei.

「Naive.」

Perhaps because Rei was moving faster than they expected, the men who tried to grab him ended up smashing into each other.

Seeing that, the young man hurriedly reached for a club on a nearby table as Rei shortened the distance, but he was too slow and Rei knocked him out immediately.

「I’ll leave them to you!」

「Got it!」

The knights who answered Rei’s call swung their sheathed swords at the men who got up from the ground and failed to catch Rei, knocking them unconscious.

「Looks like things will be cleaned up soon.」

Looking around, most of the intruders had been knocked out and the battle was coming to an end.

Some of the knights had minor injuries, few had serious or fatal injuries.

After confirming that, Rei let out a sigh of relief as he nodded to the knights and headed for the stables.
