Chapter 25 – The Working Hours of an Excel Expert

“Hey! It’s Been a while. It’s good to see you’ve been fine while I was gone.”

Saito’s probation period finally ended. It was long and painful. Inoue’s driving on the way to quests was especially tough.

“It wasn’t fine! A #REF! REGEXREPLACE stung me and a SPLIT turned into a dog and went wild because Takahashi-san failed to process it.”

“Haha, that’s still fine. The fact that you can work today means that the quests themselves went well, right? Takahashi-san has also been able to process new functions, so as his senior, it’s to Inoue’s credit, right?”

“Ehehe, well, that’s how it is I guess.”

“Thank you very much for your help. I will do my best to avoid inconveniencing you in future.”

“Hmm.”

The good thing about this world was that all the workers here were originally office workers, so we all knew how to get along in as good of a mood as possible.

“Then, let’s go.”

Saito got into a camper van.

“Eh?”

“What, did you forget something?”

“No, it’s just, why is it a camper van?”

“Oh, this is going to be a long quest. It seems like an entire file will be constructed.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, the quests we’ve done so far have been about file usage and maintenance. Someone like us just needs to look at the file made by an Excel craftsman and see where the data is being entered. Well, some others need a bit more work.”

“It’s true that many of the functions that appeared were quite repetitive.”

“That’s right. This one will probably take 3-4 days, not more than a week. Come to think of it, did you mention to him how time flows in this world? Inoue?”

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t mention it because he never asked.”

“No, no, no, it’s fine. It’s a good opportunity, so keep talking.”

“From what I heard from the office staff, it seems like a day here is about an hour in the real world.”

“Eh!? Is that so? Then, it take a lot of time to process functions, so doesn’t that mean Google Spreadsheets is really slow in displaying the calculation results compared to Excel?”

“Ah, it’s not a problem. I didn’t understand the explanation, but they were talking something about space-time and caching. Either way, we just have to work hard.”

I didn’t get it at all, but I guess it can’t be helped.

“Well, building a new file will take at least an hour, right? That means we need somewhere to sleep. It will usually take 2-4 days at most. That’s quite a lot. Sometimes it will take a week. It’s hard on us, but it also means the users will have spent about 7 hours on the spreadsheet, so it’s quite tough on them too.”

“Sometimes they start after normal work hours. I hope they can make it in time for the last train.”

“That depends on how well we do our jobs. We’ll figure it out when we get there.”

Like that, we all got into the camper van.
