Chapter 26 – The Basic Structure of the Advertisement Industry

It usually took less than 30 minutes to arrive at our destination, but today, it took over an hour to get there. The quest structure was also different from usual. First of all, there was a spiral staircase near the entrance that I usually didn’t see. When I asked Saito about it, he said that quests that spanned multiple sheets had this.

“I’ll give these to you.”

Saito handed me and Inoue two shoulder bags. Inside each was a walkie-talkie, a Calorie mate, a water bottle with the Android mascot on it, and a small round machine with what looked like a lamp of sorts and a speaker.

“That’s a sensor. It lets you know when a function appears on a sheet on a different floor. Let’s get going right away. We should preview the area first.”

When I arrived at the first sheet, a huge amount of data was already emerging in the cells. However, there were no borders or colours.

“This is the sheet where all the data is pasted.”

“Sure looks like it.”

We left the camper van, with a metal baseball bat, a bug net, extendable branch shears, and just in case, the police dog training arm protector.

“Inoue, protect this place. When a function appears, process it. Takahashi, let’s go check the other floors.”

“Please help me if things get tough.”

“Yeah. Call us on the walkie-talkie.”

Saito and I carried bags of tools and went upstairs. It was a small room. Only a small amount of data had been entered, about 10 cells worth.

“This is probably the master sheet. There are almost no functions here.”

“I see, that’s helpful. This file is probably similar to your old job. How many sheets would you use and how would you use them?”

“Well, I would make at least one sheet to check this month’s reports as well as other recent reports, one sheet to check the results of each advertising banner, and a sheet to keep track of long term monthly numbers. I can’t think of much else, so I think it will be around 10 sheets.”

“I see. It’s not a lot, but it’s not few either. I’ll take a look around. If you notice anything, let me know.”

“Got it.”

The sheets went up to the 5th floor, but so far, there was almost no data input and, naturally, no functions, so it was peaceful. I left my bag of tools on the 4th floor. If nothing appeared on the 2nd floor, the 3rd to 5th floors would probably be the main battleground for tallying everything up.

5th Floor: Tally?

4th Floor: Tally? ※Weapons

3rd Floor: Tally?

2nd Floor: Master

1st Floor: Pasted data

Saito wrote down the current situation on a portable whiteboard and leaned it against the wall at the entrance. The old man was surprisingly meticulous.

Returning to the 1st floor, Inoue was arm wrestling with a VLOOKUP.
