Chapter 53 – FILTER Functions and Combinations

The next day, Inoue had yet to recover from her psychological injury, so Saito and I went to a quest on our own.

When I entered the sheet, I saw something strange. Red eyes floating in a silver skeleton. It had a humanoid, metallic body, but its internal skeletal machinery was exposed. It seemed like this was FILTER. It clearly looked dangerous, but I had recently fought against QUERY and ARRAYFORMULA, so I wasn’t too scared of it. And, above all, this FILTER was half buried in a tree, unable to move.

“T-800”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know what the model number was.”

As usual, Saito seemed satisfied with his movie trivia. I flattered him as I asked a question.

“What kind of tree is that?”

“That’s REGEXMATCH. It often appears with FILTER.”

Saito wrote an explanation on the wall.

=FILTER(Range, REGEXMATCH(Condition Range)=TRUE)

“If you use REGEXMATCH as FILTER’s condition, you can intuitively extract a range that matches a regular expression.”

“It’s true that they are a good match. FILTER seems like it can’t move though.”

“I’ve never seen a combination like this either. It seems like an unfortunate accident. Let’s take care of it.”

We approached the function and processed it individually.

“FILTER.” “REGEXMATCH.”

The sight of the FILTER, unable to move, sinking into the cell, was reminiscent of the scene of sinking into a blast furnace.

“We were lucky just now, but there’s more to come. Be careful.”

From what Saito said, something strange was happening to the sheet. Lightning swirled around the C1 cell, making a sizzling sound. A black sphere appeared from the void as it expanded. A strong light was emitted and I involuntarily close my eyes.

When I opened my eyes, I saw a man crouched down in the fading lightning. He slowly stood up and, as he looked up, I saw that it looked exactly like the famous actor who had become the governor of California. However, unlike the movies, he was wearing clothes, so my self-esteem wasn’t hurt.

I asked, just to be sure.

“Um, that’s a function, right?”

“When UNIQUE is combined with FILTER, something like this appears. Get ready!”

The famous actor turned to face us.

“Hasta la vista, baby.”

Eh? This function can speak!?
