“Ahh, good work you two! Both of you grab a drink. It’s Takahashi’s welcome party. You guys were really helpful today.”
Saito was laughing as he ate fried chicken and drank beer.
The three of us had returned to the office in an awkward atmosphere. In fact, I felt bad to have had an argument during work. I was wondering how I could make up for it, but I guess I didn’t need to worry about Saito. He seemed to be in a better mood after finishing a beer in the office.
“I can’t believe it, were you just acting? I don’t believe it.”
“Hey, hey, do you think I’m that skilled? I was really angry at the time. I wanted to hit the two of you, just not with the baseball bat. Unlike you, my old workplace had a history of violence.”
That’s scary. I thought my company’s working environment was the worst, but at least there was no violence. Was this the Showa era?
“But really, it was a lot easier today thanks to your farce. I didn’t have to run around swinging the bat.”
“Eh? Wasn’t that bat just to scare the VLOOKUPs?”
“No, I usually chase them down and hit them. They’re small and run away. You guys are young, so it might be okay, but it’s tough for me at 42.”
Who would imagine that the back end of Google Spreadsheets was such violent world? Haha, I don’t think you would have thought it was powered by the souls of the dead in the first place, would you?
“I’ve learned a lot as well. I’ve been a worker for a long time, but I’ve been mostly working alone recently. Spreadsheets really are deep and challenging.”
I wondered if there were hawkish and moderate factions among the workers. In any case, there were various methodologies to handle functions efficiently. It might be similar to the way users argued over VLOOKUP and INDEX/MATCH.
Anyway, the evening party ended with us listening to a speech by Saito. I never thought I’d be forced to listen to my boss’ speech while drinking beer, even after being reincarnated……
This was the first day of my life in Google Spreadsheets. I’m not sure if this day was the same as 24 hours when I was alive though. In the first place, there was no day or night in this white tiled space. There still seemed to be people around me going out for quests. Either way, Saito told me to go to bed, so I decided to call it a day.
Part 1 End.
