29. Qualia

A large, box shaped device was displayed.

“What is this?”

“Qualia was a device developed to ‘unify the world'”

“That’s philosophical.”

“Actually, it was originally a philosophical question. Do you know what qualia is about?”

“The world that people see with their own eyes is not always the same as the world that others see.”

“That’s right. One can’t be sure that the ‘red’ of others and our own ‘red’ look the same, because it is rooted in our senses. This is a device that integrates things to a singular perspective.”

“Integrate?”

“Humans under the influence of this device will see the same world as the human who activated it.”

Does that mean that the world that people see is actually different?

“There is no single ‘colour’ in the world as seen by humans. That was the view of the developer of this device.”

“What about the other people? What did the people who tried to use it say?”

“There are no comments from the subjects of this device.”

“Why?”

“Because all of them went mad. After that, military use of the weapon was attempted. The museum recovered what was left abandoned before it reached practical usage.”

“Was the device incomplete? Since it damaged the brain.”

“No. The device itself was completed to specifications and worked perfectly.”

“In that case, why did that happen?”

“The scientist who developed this device said, ‘The world seen by others could be hell’.”
