40. The Door Into Summer

Inside a glass case, there was a rough looking photo.

It seemed to be quite old, the edges were curled and yellowed by the sun.

It seemed to be a record of some kind, a date and number was written on the edge of the photo.

The photo’s quality was poor and its contents were unclear due to the terrible blurring.

Something that glowed orange was floating in the sky. I couldn’t make out any more.

“What is this?”

There was taken before the beginning of the Galactic Era……a long time ago in the distant past, on a planet far away.

“What is it a photo of?”

“Its name is unknown. It was called a UFO or something like that. It is the oldest surviving record of an unidentified flying object.”

Unidentified flying objects aren’t really that rare.

Enemy planes during the war were often unidentified and would disappear off radars while abducting people.

“It was speculated the object was a combat craft. Compared to other aircraft of the time, it was an out-of-place object, a mother ship that seemed to carry smaller crafts. It was believed that its unique bouncing maneuvers were caused by an anti-gravity device, but neither the developer of the craft nor what it was designed to fight is known.”

“It’s like a fairy tale.”

“……The most notable thing about this craft is that it has been confirmed to be sighted during the Galactic Era. There have been various sightings across the galaxy. The most recent one was 18 years ago.”

“Is it the same craft as the one in the photo?”

“We can’t be sure.”

That’s impossible.

How many years would it have been flying for?

“Who would be piloting it? And for what purpose?”

“Witnesses said that it seemed like it was looking for something.”
