6. Ultra X

“What is this?”

A small robot, like a toy for children, was shuffling around inside a glass case.

Its appearance of hitting a wall, turning around, getting up and shuffling again was pretty adorable.

“Ultra X was originally designed as model for a 10m class robot.”

“Why is it here?”

“How do you think it works?”

“Batteries, elastic bands or springs?”

“None of the above, it’s made of 100% pure clay. There is no space inside it.”

“Huh?”

But it’s actually moving.

“Yes. No one knows why this kind of robot movies, but it is reproducible and has been found to move around in the same way made with exactly the same design and materials.”

“What about military applications?”

“It was attempted, but ended in failure. If you moved its antenna even a centimetre or put a single extra pebble on its back, it would turn back into a lump of clay.”

Inside the glass case, the robot continued to shuffle around.

“There were various hypotheses such as that the shape and material acted as an antenna for some sort of signal, but none of them led to anything outside the occult.”

Shakashaka. Bam.

Shakashaka. Bam.

Even if humanity is destroyed, would it continue on like this?
