18. Cherry Blossom

A female shaped android with well defined facial features was displayed inside a glass case, as if asleep.

“What is this……”

“Sir, you should stay away. It is dangerous.”

She continued her commentary as she turned to look at the glass case with an air of hostility.

It was true that despite its beautiful form, the android was somehow unsettling.

There was something about it……that made me uneasy.

“Cherry Blossom was an android made for military purposes.”

“For combat?”

“No. These androids were sent into enemy territory using a variety of means. As volunteers, comfort androids, prisoners of war, emissaries, or as civilians.”

“You mean for espionage.”

That made sense.

“No, it’s a little different……the purpose of their operation wasn’t to collect information. Of course, it wasn’t without its uses.”

“What do you mean?”

“It was designed to destroy relationships. It used every trick in the book, including seduction techniques, to destroy the relationships of those around them. They would do things like say ‘Only XX-kun would say that……’. Don’t be fooled guest. Don’t be fooled. If you listen to them, you will be in their clutches.”

It seemed to be scarier than I had expected.

“It had good results during war, but while it was undergoing maintenance in an army base, it locked up the mechanic and escaped. All the guards were locked up as well, throwing the base into chaos. It said things like ‘I-I didn’t mean to do that……’ and so on. It’s no good, guest. You have to believe me.”

Why did it seem she had a grudge against it?

“Ahem. Well, in the end, it was retrieved by the museum after it was suspended due to the incident and abandoned at the end of the war……”

“Oh, so it doesn’t end there.”

It was rare for the story to continue.

“It looked good and, if we took some safety measures, we could use it as a new guide robot.”

It seems this was the reason for her strong reaction.

She was a very emotional robot.

“So what happened?”

“Well, it turned into a fight between male staff members and we had to stop its operation again. It was a tough time for us. Two workplace romances broke up and the director’s affair was discovered.”

Are the staff here stupid?

“Oh, that last story is off the record. T-These private incidents are not supposed to be told to guests!”
